The Rug Company collaborates with Alexander McQueen on an exciting new collection

The designs of Alexander McQueen have long been known for their imaginative, fairytale qualities, combining a bold, punk sensibility with an interest in the details of the natural world. The Rug Company took on these qualities for their first collaboration with the fashion house in 2010, and have just launched their fifth, entitled Metamorphosis.

The collection's name refers to a theme of renewal and rebirth in nature and the sense of possibility that comes from those constant reinventions. The five rugs feature recognisable McQueen motifs; the collection was designed under the creative direction of Sarah Burton, and each is an adaptation of a specific look from one of the brand's collections. Some zoom in on the details of butterflies and insects, as in the Painted Lady and Beetle rugs, but also incorporate incredibly lyrical designs: the Crown Blossom rug depicts two cranes in flight, their wings and tails interwoven, surrounded by a flurry of cherry blossom. The beautiful Tree of Life design depicts this the universal symbol of growth, and was specifically inspired by the Celtic tradition of Clootie trees and the Cornish Tregellas Tapestries.

Alexander McQueen and The Rug Company share a commitment to fine craftsmanship, and the rugs have all been woven from Tibetan wool and silk by The Rug Company’s craftspeople in Nepal.
